There are ways to prevent the Emerald Ash Borer from spreading. One method is using insecticides, either by soil injection/drench, trunk injection, or bark and foliage cover sprays. The easiest method to prevent the insects spread is not to transport wood from place to place. Do not bring firewood from home; make sure it is bought near the campsite. Purple triangular traps ahve been set up in trees as well. The purple traps, which are sticky and baited with a compound that simulates a distressed ash tree, are designed to attract the destructive emerald ash borer. Be very cautious when dealing with Ash trees. Emeraldashborer.info states that the Emerald Ash Borer has killed at least 50 - 100 million ash trees so far and threatens to kill most of the ash trees throughout North America.
